Video gets the most clicks online, and if you’re promoting a book, you want to get as many clicks as possible. Book trailers can be an attention-getting promotional tool if you do them right. Her book trailer got almost 30,000 views in a month. This workshop will give you resources for royalty-free stock footage, music, and graphics to make an arresting video piece that will drive traffic to your website and, more importantly, your order page. You’ll learn how to get low-cost help from college and art school film programs. We’ll discuss the dos and don’ts, view effective trailers and tacky trailers, and brainstorm ideas for your very own video baby.

Denny Moses of Rocky Mountain Security, Consulting, and Investigations will be speaking to SinC-Colorado members at our next Chapter Meeting/Event.

Firearms: Function, Fact, and Fiction
What Crime Writers Should Know

Mr. Moses will address the overall Function of firearms likely to appear in crime fiction: Handguns, Rifles, and Shotguns. He will also discuss the following terms and concepts in addition to Fact and Fiction relating to those terms and concepts: Point Blank Range, Silencers, Fire Power, Tactical, Knockdown Power, Red Dot Sights, Stopping Power, Iron sights, Semi Automatic, Telescopic sights, Fully Automatic, Night vision sights, Recoil, Inferred (IR) sights, Magazines, Cartridge, Trajectory, Shell case, Energy, Bullet, Caliber, Primer, Lands and Groves, Powder, Suppressor, Vests/Trauma Plates.

Mr. Moses retired from Northrup Grumman/TRW in 2008 after over 25 years working in the security field supporting classified contracts primarily in the intelligence arena. Prior to that time he served for nine years in law enforcement as a patrol officer and District Attorney’s Investigator. He was also Licensed Private Investigator in California for 5 years and is the Past President, Professional Private Investigator’s Association of Colorado, PPIAC.

Mr. Moses has earned a Bachelors of Science, Criminal Justice, Cal State L.A. and Master’s in Business Administration, University of Redlands. His professional training and certifications include: NRA Basic Pistol Instructor (Current), NRA Personal Protection Inside the Home Instructor (Current), Armed Security Officer, Transportation Security Agency (Current), Advanced POST Certificate (Previous), California PI License (Previous), Colorado PI License (In process).

Mr. Moses has been happily married to his wife Sheila since 1970. He enjoys photography and restoring/modifying antique autos. He is actively involved with his and Sheila’s alma mater, the University of Redlands where he has served as a Trustee. Mr. Moses has been a credentialed volunteer with the Parker Police Department since 2008 where he performs various functions including Range Safety Officer. Mr. Moses has successfully competed in various firearm competitions during his 50 plus years of involvement in shooting sports, and keeps abreast of changes and current trends in firearms the industry.

An avid reader, Mr. Moses reads all of the Michael Connelly, John Sandford, James Patterson (Cross Series) novels. Other authors he enjoys are Somerset Maugham, P.D. James, Harlan Coben, Robert B. Parker, Stephen Hunter, Nelson DeMille, Jack Higgins, and Ken Follett. He rates A Higher Call by Adam Makos as his favorite work of non-fiction, and Jackdaws by Ken Follet as his favorite novel.
