People

Sisters in Crime-Colorado is an organization run completely by volunteers. We're sure you've been involved in groups such as this. However, what might be new to you when you join SinC-CO, is how much you get back personally and professionally from your efforts.

We strive to have every single member involved in SinC-CO. We don't want to be one of those organizations that people join simply so they can add it to their resume or platform.

Every member of SinC-CO has expertise, whether they believe it or not! We firmly believe in the "one hand forward and one hand back" philosophy. No matter where you are in your journey, you can help someone and you can receive help from someone.

With that in mind, we have a loooong list of ways our members can be of service to each other, and enrich their own experience.

• First and foremost, show up to your chapter events
It's simply impossible for you to attend an event with SinC-CO without learning something useful for your writing while enjoying the company of like-minded individuals. Make the time to invest in yourself and have a bit of fun while doing so.

• Stand for election to a Board position
President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Membership Chair are all elected positions, with two-year terms. After two years, the Vice President rolls into the President's position and the President becomes an advisor on the Past President's list.

We're at the point where we need to expand the Membership position. The Membership Chair would oversee two Committee Coordinators: Membership Outreach (to make sure we're addressing the needs of current members) and Membership Growth (to make sure we're adding new members and new ideas to our organization).

Join a committee
We're increasing the opportunities for our members to put their thumbprint on this chapter. The Programming Chairs have added two subcommittees: Field Trips and Informal Zoom Events. Field Trips is obvious and they've been setting us up with great activities. The Informal Zoom Events Committee came about because we have many out-of-state members, or just not-in-the-Denver-metro-area where most activity takes place. But with the Informal Zoom Events, you can set up or request a date and a topic—anything from a virtual coffee date (or Happy Hour) to enjoy a chat with other members, to a specific writing problem you'd like feedback about, to a mystery trivia game, to a critique group. Literally ... anything you want!

We're also in the throes of reorganizing the Social Media program. It has become such a large undertaking that we've added a long list of volunteers we're calling Social Media Masterminds. People who like certain social media platforms and who will monitor and post on behalf of SinC-CO. Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, a chapter Goodreads page, Substack .... and many more. So, if you are willing to put dibs on one of these sites, you are a perfect Mastermind! The Social Media Chair would oversee this group and act as a clearinghouse to disseminate info to the appropriate Masterminds.

We're looking for a Webmaster and people to be involved in the newsletter.

We'd also love to have someone in charge of a master calendar, not just for our chapter events, but also to let our members know when writer or fan conferences are coming up, or submission/contest deadlines our members might be interested in.

We think it would be cool to have an historian or photographer to collect and showcase things we do.

We'd love to have a committee that connects with libraries and bookstores on behalf of our chapter and membership.

You know the adage many hands make light work? You can see how your help would make a difference.

Start a committee
Don't see something you think we need? Let's talk about it! That's how the incredibly popular SinC-CO Book Club got started. Before the pandemic screwed everything up, we had several in-person book clubs, in addition to the online book club. People would meet in bookstores or wine bars or restaurants or libraries to talk with the author about their book. It was an event that filled our cups once a month (or more, if you went to all the book clubs!) with great discussions about craft and books. It's always fun to hang out with our SinC-CO siblings, as well as readers who have become Book Club regulars. Anyone can launch an in-person book club, anywhere in the state. Let's talk!

• And did we mention showing up to events? Do it. You know you want to!
