PROGRAM/SCHEDULE
9:30 am – 10:00 am Welcome, Announcements
10:00 am – 12:00 pm How to Write a Synopsis by Pam McCutcheon
Most writers hate writing synopses, and no wonder. After you’ve agonized over several hundred pages to make your prose absolutely perfect, how could you possibly distill that down to a measly ten or twenty pages? Or, worse yet, one or two? By the time you’ve written the book, everything seems important, and it’s difficult to know what to put in and what to leave out.
This workshop will help you understand the elements you need for a traditional synopsis to send to an editor or agent, plus what you need for a back cover blurb.
12:00pm – 1:00 pm Lunch (brown bag or visit nearby restaurants)
1:00 pm – 3:00 pm In Character Workshop: The Life and Writings of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle by Michael Chandos
Author Michael Chandos will present a workshop on the Life and Writings of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Learn how and why a detective series which originated in 1887 is still widely touted and relevant in the 21st century. In this interactive in-character workshop, Michael Chandos will reveal: Who were Sherlock and Watson? Why the word “Sherlockian” has long been recognized by Merriam-Webster and dictionaries worldwide, and why this mystery series.
Sherlockian, you ask? Definition of Sherlockian: of or resembling the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes especially in the exercise of unusual powers of deduction solved the mystery with Sherlockian ease could almost see the Sherlockian glitter in the doctor’s eyes— Philip Wheelwright
